In 10 years'time, Israel plans to cut its electricity needs into half using energy coming from the exploitation of solar sources.

According to the Ministry of the Environment in 30 years the country will be able to produce the 80% of its electric energy needs by using solar collectors reducing its emitions drastically.

By 2030, this possibility could be achieved by only using solarpanels which are installed in buildings, greenhouses and builtinfrastructure, without

violating open areas and fields.The current target set by the government is to have 17% of the electricity by sustainable sources.

The ministries of Finance and Energy and the Israeli Public Power Corporation published a joint tender for the construction and maintenance of a solar station of 300 megawatt, being the largest producer of solar energy in the country.The factory, which is expected to be completed in 2023, will be built in 3sq. km near the city of Dimona.
In an interview Christiana Figueres, former Executive Secretary of the Framework Convention of the United Nations on Climate Change (UNFCCC), said that Israel has the capacity to produce 100% of its own electricity needs from sustainable energy sources.
